Alice Visentin

Alice Visentin (1993, Castellamonte) develops an artistic practice centred on the use of the episcopio to create live “analog cinema”. Through languages such as gestural painting, collage, and the magic lantern, she explores the transformative potential of imagination and the role of the female voice in the construction of collective memory. Her works layer different temporalities, celebrating the complexity of the world through poetic and symbolic forms of expression.

Her works layer different temporalities, celebrating the complexity of the world through poetic and symbolic forms.

In her performances such as Material for a Thousand Stories (Swiss Institute, 2024) and In the Voices of Others (Kunsthalle Winterthur, 2024), Visentin draws on transparent tracing sheets that are projected in real time, creating layered narratives in which personal memories, literary references, and collective imaginaries overlap through light. Through the use of media including gestural painting, collage, the magic lantern, and installation, she explores the transformative potential of imagination, the role of the female voice in shaping collective memory, and the affective genealogies that connect individuals and communities.

Her research is rooted in oral traditions, vernacular cultures, and marginal stories, which she transforms into works that celebrate the complexity of the world through poetic and symbolic languages. Visentin’s ability to render the invisible visible through transparency, to layer different temporalities, and to create relational spaces through art makes her particularly well suited to engaging with the pedagogical heritage of Comunità Nuova.

For Material for a Thousand Stories, she adapts her established methodology to a specific educational context, transforming pedagogical documents into participatory artistic material for the first time, demonstrating the versatility and depth of her artistic approach.
